Greens want Woodside to process gas in E Timor

The Greens say if they win the balance of power in the Senate they will try to pressure the Federal Government to make Woodside process oil and gas from the Greater Sunrise field in East Timor.

Woodside disappointed Darwin and Dili earlier this year by announcing it had decided to process the gas offshore on a floating platform.

Senator Bob Brown has been in Darwin today to announce his party's East Timor aid policy.

He says Woodside should be forced to process onshore.

"[Woodside has] now decided to process in the ocean using Darwin as a springboard," he said.

"But it should really be giving the East Timorese the huge economic flip this would be for their economy, for their workforce, for their skilling in a country where half the people are getting less than a dollar a day income."
